TypeDrift is a typing practice and training application created by Anson Alexander. This Privacy Policy explains the categories of information TypeDrift may collect or process, how that information is used, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.
Scope
This Policy applies to the TypeDrift application, the TypeDrift marketing and support website, account and subscription features, certificate verification pages, and communications with TypeDrift support. Third-party services linked from TypeDrift have their own privacy practices.
Information We May Collect
Depending on how you use TypeDrift, we may collect, process, or store the following categories of information:
- Typing practice and progress data: practice mode, run identifiers, session timing, duration, WPM, accuracy, consistency, key-level performance, history, streaks, achievements, settings, preferences, and related statistics.
- Tasks data: Starter Journey progress, offered or active Tasks, task launches, outcomes, eligible rewards or achievements, lifetime Tasks Completed totals, and related Leaderboard data.
- Accelerator data: course progress, active tier, completed drills or milestones, accuracy or speed results, certificate eligibility, and certificate records.
- Account information: account identifier, email address, profile name, sign-in provider information, avatar or badge selections, and supported synced account data.
- Public profile and competition data: profile name, avatar or badge, Leaderboard entries, ranks, scores, achievements, Tasks Completed totals, and certificate verification details that you choose or are eligible to make public through supported features.
- License and subscription information: plan type, license or entitlement status, billing state, purchase-related identifiers, subscription status, and related access information. TypeDrift does not store your full payment-card number.
- Analytics and technical information: feature and mode usage, page or screen views, run starts and completions, exits, upgrade interactions, device and browser information, approximate location derived from network information where provided by analytics tools, referrer information, error information, and general engagement data.
- Browser and local-storage data: settings, local progress, preferences, licenses, article history, favorites, session state, feature history, and other supported local app state.
- Support communications: your email address and any information, screenshots, diagnostics, or files you choose to include when contacting support.
Custom Text and Saved Custom Texts
TypeDrift Pro may allow you to paste and practice your own writing, notes, scripts, lessons, study material, or other text. Saved Custom Texts are designed to stay local to your browser. Their text content, titles, snippets, previews, and internal saved-text IDs are not cloud-synced and are not sent to analytics.
TypeDrift may process Custom Text temporarily in your browser so the typing session can function, but TypeDrift does not intentionally make that content public. Clearing browser data, deleting a browser profile, or changing devices may remove locally saved text. Avoid pasting sensitive, confidential, regulated, or private information that you do not want stored on your device.
Information We Do Not Intend to Collect Through Analytics
TypeDrift does not use analytics to record every keystroke as personal content. Saved Custom Text content, titles, snippets, previews, and IDs are not sent to analytics. Code & Commands is typing practice only and does not execute, inspect, or transmit commands as live system activity.
How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- provide typing practice, Tasks, stats, achievements, Leaderboards, settings, customization, and progress tracking;
- validate completed runs, calculate supported outcomes, maintain lifetime totals, and provide eligible rewards or achievements;
- sync supported progress and preferences across devices when you sign in;
- operate Accelerator, preserve course progress, determine milestone or certificate eligibility, and provide public certificate verification;
- validate licenses, subscriptions, and paid access;
- process purchases, billing status, cancellations, and support requests through service providers;
- understand which modes, features, pages, and upgrade paths are useful;
- diagnose errors, improve performance, protect reliability, and develop TypeDrift;
- prevent fraud, abuse, invalid runs, unauthorized access, manipulation, and technical misuse;
- communicate about support, account access, billing, security, or material service changes;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce the Terms of Service.
Local Storage and Cloud Sync
TypeDrift uses browser storage, cookies, and similar technologies to remember settings, local progress, preferences, article history, favorites, license state, sessions, and feature history. If you remain signed out, much of this data may stay only in that browser and may not follow you to another device.
If you sign in, TypeDrift may sync selected supported data to your account, such as progress, stats, achievements, settings, preferences, article history, Tasks progress, Accelerator progress, and other supported app state. Saved Custom Text contents and related saved-text fields are not included in cloud sync.
Profiles, Leaderboards, and Public Information
TypeDrift includes public or shared progress features. Depending on the feature and your participation, information such as a profile name, avatar or badge, rank, score, achievement, Tasks Completed total, or certificate verification detail may be visible to other users or anyone with a verification link. Avoid placing sensitive personal information in public profile fields.
Google Analytics
TypeDrift may use Google Analytics to understand how people use the app and website. Analytics events may include page or screen views, device and browser information, mode selection, practice-session starts and completions, exits, Tasks lifecycle events, feature usage, upgrade interactions, and general engagement. Google may process analytics information according to its own terms and privacy practices.
Analytics are used for product measurement, reliability, and improvement. TypeDrift does not intentionally send Google Analytics saved Custom Text content or information that TypeDrift recognizes as directly identifying personal content. Analytics availability and data collection may vary based on browser settings, consent choices, blocking tools, regional requirements, and product configuration.
Payments and Stripe
Payments, subscription billing, customer billing portals, and related fraud prevention are handled through Stripe. TypeDrift may receive limited transaction, customer, plan, payment-status, and subscription information needed to provide paid access and support. TypeDrift does not store your full credit-card number. Stripe processes payment and identity information under its own privacy practices and legal obligations.
Sign-In Providers
If you sign in through Google or another supported authentication method, TypeDrift may receive basic account information such as an account identifier, email address, profile name, and session information needed to authenticate you and associate supported data with your account. Authentication providers operate under their own privacy practices.
Wikipedia and Third-Party Content
Wikipedia mode allows you to search for, save, and type content from Wikipedia articles. TypeDrift may store recent or favorite articles locally and may sync supported article history when you are signed in. Requests to retrieve article content may be sent to Wikipedia or related services. TypeDrift is not affiliated with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose limited information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: hosting, infrastructure, authentication, analytics, payment processing, email, support, security, and technical services that help operate TypeDrift.
- Public features: information you make public or that is displayed through Leaderboards, profile features, achievements, Tasks Completed totals, or certificate verification.
- Legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect users, investigate fraud or abuse, enforce the Terms, or protect TypeDrift’s rights and security.
- Business changes: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to applicable law.
- With your direction or consent: when you ask us to share information or otherwise authorize the disclosure.
Data Retention
Local browser data generally remains until it is deleted by you, removed by the browser or device, overwritten by app behavior, or otherwise becomes unavailable. Account, progress, license, subscription, security, analytics, support, and certificate information may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to provide TypeDrift, maintain records, protect the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or operational requirements.
Retention periods may vary by data type and service provider. Some information may remain in backups or records for a limited period after deletion. Public certificate verification or transaction records may need to be retained longer for authenticity, security, or legal purposes.
Security
TypeDrift uses reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect the service and user information. However, no online service, browser storage system, authentication method, or transmission can guarantee perfect security. You are responsible for protecting access to your email account, sign-in provider, device, and browser profile.
Your Choices
- You can use many TypeDrift features without creating an account.
- You can choose what profile name, avatar, or badge to use in supported public features.
- You can clear local browser data through your browser settings, understanding that this may remove unsynced progress and Saved Custom Texts.
- You can use browser settings, consent controls, or blocking tools that may limit cookies or analytics.
- You can cancel a subscription through the Stripe billing portal.
- You can contact support to request help accessing, correcting, or deleting supported account-related information.
Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights concerning personal information, such as rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or information about collection and disclosure. Some rights may be limited by exceptions or may not apply to every user or every category of information.
To submit a privacy request, email support@typedrift.app. TypeDrift may need to verify your identity or account before completing a request. Authorized agents may be asked to provide proof of authority where required. TypeDrift will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
California Privacy Notice
California residents may have rights under applicable California privacy law to know about categories of personal information collected, access specific information, request correction or deletion, obtain information about disclosure, and exercise other rights where the law applies. TypeDrift does not sell personal information. Requests can be submitted through the support email above.

If you believe TypeDrift has received personal information from a child under 13, contact support so the situation can be reviewed and appropriate action can be taken.
TypeDrift may be used for typing education, but it does not currently provide classroom administration or school-managed account features. Parents, guardians, schools, teachers, and administrators are responsible for evaluating whether use is appropriate and for obtaining any permissions required by their policies or applicable law.
